This is throwback style horror that is good scary fun. I found the film to now feel more like an extension of the original which brought to light the things that I found enjoyable about it, and now this one. Now that I was familiar with the story and where it was going, with no subconscious comparisons to the first film, I was able to glean more from text. The suspense is palpable and there is a bit of a twist that is worked in very well.Īs I sat down to watch it at home I looked forward to the revisit hoping that the second viewing would bear fruit, and it did. I did find director James Wan's approach to storytelling to be every bit as engaging, and the elements of fright, while familiar, still landed right on cue. I mean I liked it just fine, but felt that the narrative wasn't as focused as the first film, which in some ways failed to thoroughly connect me with the plight of the family in England. I came away from it with a bit of a lukewarm reaction. I am a big fan of The Conjuring and went to see The Conjuring 2during its opening weekend. The Conjuring 2 brings to the screen another real case from the files of renowned demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren. It's then that they come to discover their terrifying truth that, not only are they dealing with a haunting, but something even more sinister, and its agenda includes them. It's when Peggy's youngest daughter starts showing signs of demonic possession that Ed and Lorraine take a more active role to intervene in order to help the besieged girl. In 1977, at the unofficial request of the Catholic Church, paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren travel to London, England, where single mother Peggy Hodgson believes that something evil is in her home.
